What's a domain name and how do I get one?

A domain name is basically the internet address of your site, and is usually in the form www.yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com.au. To get a domain name, you first need to find out whether the domain name is available. For that, you need to go to a domain registrar and do a search to see whether anyone has already bought the domain name you want.

It is then a simple matter of registering the domain name. But I suggest you shop around for the best price. Some registrars charge a lot more money than others! Or, we can help you do this as part of building your website.

What's a hosting service?

A hosting service is a place that actually holds or "hosts" your website. Once your website is built, it needs to be hosted somewhere so that everyone on the Internet can find it. There are many reliable hosting companies who will provide this service for a monthly or annual fee. Once again, I suggest you shop around for the best price. Some hosting companies charge a lot more money than others (and offer a much poorer service)! Or, we can help you do this as part of building your website.

How do I know how many pages I want on my website?

Think about what you want on your website. If you are just letting the world know about your service (and it's a fairly simple service, like towing) and you don't actually want to sell anything online, you may just have one page that says what you do, what areas you cover, and then contact details such as phone and email address. On the other hand, you might be a small company that wants to tell customers about yourself, give them contact information, tell them about your products and/or services, maybe give them some useful information about your product area.

The best thing to do is to have a look at other sites that are similar to what you want to do, and then look to see how many clickable links they have on their home page. Usually, each clickable link is a separate page.

We are certainly happy to work with you to either create or source royalty free images for your website.

You say I have to do the words on the page, but I'm not very good with words ...

That's OK - we can help there too. Just tell us what you want on the page, and we can draft up some words for you to review and approve.

Once my website is built, how does it get onto the Internet?

We'll take care of that for you. What we do is a thing called FTP (for File Transfer Protocol). That's just a fancy way of saying we send the information from our computer to the computer where your site is hosted.

I only want to sell 1 product so I don't want to pay too much money for a merchant solution

We understand! Depending on what you are selling, and where you are located, there are cheap options available such as PayPal where you pay by the transaction. There are no set up fees, no monthly fees - you just pay as you go. We are happy to work with you to recommend a solution appropriate to your needs.

I think I need a shopping cart but it all looks too complicated

They certainly can be, but there are options available where you don't need to know too much about technology to use one. There are both pay as you go type models (like PayPal's shopping cart), as well as fully hosted shopping carts where you pay a regular monthly fee. We are happy to work with you to recommend a solution appropriate to your needs.

Once my website is live, what if I notice something I've missed?

No problem - just let us know. We can agree between us whether it was part of the original brief and we both just missed it (in which case we'll fix it up at no cost), or whether this is something that wasn't part of the original brief, and we can give you an estimate of what it would cost to include.

Can I make changes to the website once it's on the Internet?

Certainly. We can either do maintenance for you on an ad hoc basis, or you can sign up for one of our regular maintence packs. It dependfs how often you want to change the website. Just see our pricing page.

How do I pay?

Once we've discussed your needs with you and agreed exactly what needs to be done, we'll send you a link to an invoice page which will list exactly what we've agreed to do and the total cost. If you are happy with this quote, then you can just click the Pay Now button and pay securely by credit card.
